It's that time of year in Florida when everyone starts dreaming of a cool escape. The sticky, humid days are here, and the sun feels like it's on a mission to roast us. Right now, being out on the water is a sweet break from the heat, but as August rolls in, I can't help but crave a getaway to the refreshing mountains of North Carolina. One of our favorite spots is Lake Glenville, a hidden gem in the Blue Ridge Mountains. This beautiful lake is surrounded by lush forests and hills, making it perfect for both relaxation and adventure. I always bring my travel sketchbook to capture the stunning views and vibrant colors. Mornings are the best—I love painting with a hot cup of coffee in hand, the steam mixing with the cool mountain air. Starting the day this way, with the sounds of nature around me, feels amazing. After painting, I jump into the refreshing lake, feeling invigorated as I float under the clear blue sky. The area is also home to gorgeous waterfalls, each one more breathtaking than the last. We love hiking to these spots, enjoying picnics on the pontoon boat and soaking in the scenery. As the sun sets, we gather around fire pits, sharing laughs and stories with family. T Our time in Lake Glenville isn’t just a getaway; it’s a cherished tradition that brings us closer and lets us reconnect with nature. Swimming, hiking, painting, and spending quality time together create lasting memories that we hold onto long after returning to the Florida heat. So, as summer heats up, I can’t wait for our mountain escape, where cool breezes and beautiful views await!
My art is always inspired by a moment in time that I want to capture and share, a beautiful landscape when the light is just magical. My mountain paintings are so much fun for me, as they allow me to explore the variety of greens and the cool tones of the mountains in the distance, creating a sense of depth and tranquility. This experience is so different from my Florida landscapes, where vibrant colors and warm hues dominate the scene, reflecting the unique essence of each environment. Each piece I create is a reflection of my connection to these diverse landscapes, inviting viewers to experience the beauty I see in the world around me.
Last year, we chose the Keys over the mountains, another beautiful place that nourishes the soul. This trip sparked the inspiration for my sea creature series. Now, reflecting on the mountains, I recently received this painting back from the framer, and it has ignited my creativity for a new series. I wanted to share a glimpse of it with you here.
